April Favourites

photo 1edited

Bonjour my lovelies,

Seeing as April has come and gone, I think a monthly favourites is in order. At the start of April, I vowed that I would flip my next to nonexistent skincare routine on its head and be a little braver in trying new things, and I did.

Enough ramble Relly, lets go…

Skincare

Disclaimer: Some of the products mentioned here are a tad pricey, sorry. I actually got the majority of these in a free gift set. I can’t find the offer online but it was the Holly Fulton for Elizabeth Arden exclusive to Boots.

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Eye Cream: After trying countless drugstore brightening creams for my dark under eye circles and nothing really making a difference, I decided to give this a go. I use it morning and night, and it works a dream. My panda eyes look a lot brighter and less bug- eyed. The creamy consistency absorbs nicely into the skin and keeps my eyes feeling hydrated all day. A tad pricey at £26 but you only have to use a tiny bit, so 15g will last months.

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Optimizing Skin Serum: This is just a cream serum that claims to ‘give skin a healthy looking glow and renews skin’s clarity and texture.’ After using it just one night before bed, it quickly made its way to my evening routine. My skin feels hydrated, smooth and has a healthy glow to it. Trust me, the only glow I’m used to seeing on my skin is oil. Unlike a lot of other skin serums I’ve tried, this doesn’t break me out at all and it does its job.

serum

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Exfoliating Cleanser: I just use this to exfoliate once a week and its kicked my trusty Garnier 3 in 1 in the butt. It’s a really creamy face wash but has very gentle particles in it. It’s not harsh on the skin by any means, its makes my skin feel moisturized, hydrated and best of all it doesn’t aggravate any pesky zits.

3

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Daily Youth Restoring Serum: These came in form of little capsules, and they claim to ‘reinforce your skins natural ceramides and help skin repair itself.’ At first touch, these feel super oily, making me a little apprehensive at first, but I wouldn’t be a very good blogger if I didnt give things a go right 😉 and thank god I did. I use one of these a week before bed, and in the morning my skin looks radiant and the dry patches around my nose etc are healed.

photo 3

The last 3 products I mentioned were part of the free gift set, so I only have sample sizes, but they have worked wonders so I will be purchasing the full sizers at some point. Click here for the full size products if you’re interested.

Superdrug Tea Tree Daily Cleaner and Toner: I won’t lie, this was primarily an impulse buy, we all have them right ;). My skin has cleared up soooo much after using this nightly. It leaves my skin all tingly and fresh directly after use, and has managed to keep any looming breakouts at bay. For £2.99 this stuff is a bloody bargain.

tt

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water: I finally ditched make up wipes, in favour of jumping on the cleaning water hype. This removes all my makeup, including stubborn Mascara whilst gently cleansing my skin. I just pop some on a cotton pad, soak my eyes for a couple of seconds then rub in circular motions across the face. It feels gentle, refreshing doesn’t break me out and doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight and oily. For only £3.99 for quite a big bottle, this is definitely a purchase worth pennies.

Makeup

Urban Decay Naked Palette: I’m sure you’re all aware by now; I’m a sucker for a Naked Palette. This month I’ve tried to wean myself off Naked 2 and 3, and show my latest palette the love. I’ve been loving wearing the mid chocolate brown colour Buck through the crease with a smidge of Darkhorse, a darker brown shade with specks of gold glitter on the outer V, with Naked, the brown toned nude shade all over the lid. 12 shades of great colour pay off, consistency and lasting power, the Naked Palettes are top notch; which I’d say justifies its seemingly high price at £37.

naked1

MAC 224 Brush: I finally did gave in, I got my very first MAC brush oh yeahhhhh! This is a tapered, dome shaped blending brush, which makes the application of eyeshadow to the crease easy peasy. The bristles are made from very soft fibres so it controls the amount of product it picks up and is gentle on the delicate eye area. The only downside is the price, at £25 for one single brush, it just makes me think, woooow I could buy a set of Real Techniques brushes for less than that.

brush

Other

Oral B Braun Electric Toothbrush: This was a birthday present of my gorgeous significant other. I was still living in the stone ages with my little manual toothbrush scratching my poor gums raw. This has made my oral hygiene routine a breeze, its powerful and the head rotates, leaving my teeth looking and feeling clean and shiny, all I have to do is stand there being lazy. After 2 minutes, the brush gives you a sign to indicate that your recommended brushing time is up. It has around 20 minutes battery life, so you only need to charge it once a week. These are around £30 I think and £10 for a pack of heads which I believe last up to 6 months.

Hope you all enjoyed April, leave me a comment telling me what products have made your April awesome. Until next week, don’t forget to like/ follow/ comment and enjoy yet another Bank Holiday weekend. I’ll see you soon 🙂

Oil Wars | How I Tackle the T-Zone

Happy Thursday lovely people,

Having skin that seems to produce more oil in a day, than Mc Donalds does in a week; it’s fair to say ‘Housten we have a problem.’ Especially with summer just around the river bend. So heres how I tackle the T-Zone.

oil3edit

I’ve tried everything to tackle my T-Zone, from rubbing my skin with lemon juice before bed to mentholated talc – you name it I’ve done it. Nothing really worked, in fact things just got worse. Anyhoooz, I have finally settled into a skincare routine that seems to work for me so I thought I’d share it with you, and maybe it could help some of you with the same issue.

Face Wash

I wash my face first thing in the morning before makeup, then again before bed. I’m not really fussy about which wash I use – partly for the fact I get bored. One brand I always tend to go back to is Garnier, I just find their face washes give my skin a deep clean (especially the Pure Active range), not too harsh and are relatively cheap. During the week I just use a cream wash, but at weekend I like to use an exfoliater and mask.

What I’m using at the moment.

Clearasil Oil and Shine Balancing Wash – This is what I use during the week. I have to admit, this isn’t the best wash I have used. It doesn’t give me the same ahhhhhhhh fresh feeling that the Pure Active range does and it doesn’t seem to foam up at all – but it works; it’s not breaking me out, it’s helping combat the grease ball and it smells good. I got this on offer in Superdrug for £2.49, but if I’m not mistaken it usually retails around £4.

oil4

Garnier Pure Active 3 in 1 – This is what I use at weekend, and I looove it. It triples up as a wash, exfoliator and mask at the same time. If you wash it straight off its just a wash/ exfoliator, but if you leave it on, the clay hardens and leaves you with a clay mask. I apply it to dry skin, leave it for 10 mins, and then take it off. Afterwards my skin feels really tingly, fresh and soft. The only thing I will say however, is that it can be quite drying so you will need to follow up with a good moisturiser and I wouldn’t use this every day. It retails around £5 which is pretty reasonable considering it works 3 jobs.

oil5

Moisturiser

This is one I’ve struggled with in the past, all the face moisturisers I bought (including the oil free ones) would still make me oily/ break me out. However I’ve found 2 that actually work so I tend to switch between, depending how my skin feels or which make up I’ll be using.

Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Moisturiser – Like all Simple products, it’s made with multi vitamins for sensitive skin and promises to ‘eliminate shine and maintain moisture levels.’ This really works for me, it doesn’t make my skin oily throughout the day, absorbs well and moisturises really well. It doesn’t break me out and makeup blends easily on top of it. This retails around £5.

oil1oil6

Boots Tea Tree Witch Hazel Shine Control Day Moisturiser – This doesn’t look like a moisturiser, to me it looks like a face wash until you read it. Unlike the Simple Oil Balancing Moisturiser, this is a gel formula. It promises to ‘lightly moisturise, keep skin shine free, provide a matte makeup base and calm skin’ – It does exactly that. It absorbs really quickly into the skin, visibly mattifies and the tea tree, witch hazel keeps skin clear. This doesn’t provide as much moisture as the Simple one, but if keeping oil at bay is your main goal, its perfect. This is around £3 in Boots.

Makeup

Tinted Moisturiser/ BB Cream – The drugstore ones aimed at Oily skin, for example the Maybelline Matte BB Cream really do not work for me, they turn my skin some ridiculous shade of tangerine and look like someone has thrown a bag of flour over my face for a spot of baking. I stick to the NARS Tinted Moisturiser now though, as it’s the only one that stays on all day and doesn’t turn oily/ cakey. My advice on this front is to avoid any heavy products and allow your skin to breath under the makeup as much as possible.

e4f0022b-beb8-49b4-a0f0-55fb1a4ca8da

Powder – I don’t use this every day, I only use it to touch up my T Zone if I get a bit of shine/ need my makeup to last. I use the Rimmel Stay Matte powder in 001 Translucent, it’s great for touching up and doesn’t look powdery.

rimmel stay matte (5)

That’s about all I do to my skin, its not a lot but I’ve found this routine/ these products work for me to keep my skin from looking like a fat fryer. I will do a post on my full skin care routine soon as I’ve changed it up in the last few days if anyone would be interested?

Does anybody have any tips or products that help oily skin? Let me know in the comments. Until Tag Tuesday is upon us, Happy Easter and eat your weight in chocolate. I bid you farewell, don’t forget to Like/ Comment/ Follow – you know the dance.

7 Sins of Beauty | TAG

Today I’m going to give the 7 Deadly Sins of Beauty TAG a whirl. I think this tag is based on the movie Se7en, which is about 7 short stories that describe 7 sins of mankind. Anyway, this cool concept has now been turned into a beauty TAG, so lets get on with it.

7 sins edit final

Greed

What is your most inexpensive beauty item? My least expensive beauty product I would have to go with my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer. At £5, it’s an absolute bargain and it works so well. It covers any pesky red zits, stays put and even doubles up as an eye primer. Win win.

coneal;er

What is your most expensive beauty item? Hmm, I’m going to go with the Urban Decay Naked Pallets. The colour range/ pigmentation and lasting power is perfection. These are probably the most babied products in my makeup collection; I haven’t even taken them out of the boxes they came in. Costing £37 each, that’s £111 worth of eyeshadow – OUCH!

3NakedPalettes

Wrath

What beauty products do you have a love/ hate relationship with? The love/ hate award has to go to lipstick. I love the gawping at the colours, but I don’t have the confidence to wear any colours but nudes, and within an hour they make my lips peel. Dayymn.

lippy

What product has been the hardest to get? The Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette. I got my Naked Palettes in the complete wrong order, 2 first, then 3 then 1. Surprisingly enough, it was the Naked 1 palette that was sold out everywhere, even though it’s been out 4 years longer than the other 2. Strange.

naked1

Gluttony

What are your most delicious beauty products? I think this solely goes to the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. I was so excited to finally get this, as it was INSANE the amount of people raving about it. As pricey as it is at £26, it has practically given me new lips so it really justifies itself. It doesn’t smell great but it works a dream. Full review here.

ea1

Sloth

What beauty products do you neglect due to laziness? Night skin treatments, hands down. All I want to do at night is lay in bed with my iPad; the idea of spending an extra 10 mins on my skin with oil and god knows what else – psssh bugger that. After the makeups off, my Duac treatment goes on and that’s about it. Dear Skin, I promise I will try and do better.

night

Pride

What beauty product gives you the most self confidence? The NARS tinted moisturiser. I’ve done a full review of this beauty right here. It gives just the right amount of coverage and it’s really buildable. As it’s so lightweight, it just feels like skin, rather than skin that has been buried under a ton of makeup.

e4f0022b-beb8-49b4-a0f0-55fb1a4ca8da

Lust

What products do you lust after? The YSL Babydoll Mascara. I want to try it sooooo bad but I can’t seem to cave into my own temptation. I love my Maybelline The Falsies that much that I’m scared the YSL can’t live up to it. What’s a girl to do?

untitled

Envy

What would you most like to receive as a gift? Hmmm tough one, but I think I’ll go for Benefit Makeup. I get confused by all the product names, figure I’d be completely lost and avoid the stand. However, the significant other was nice enough to surprise me with the High Beam Highlighter, and I absolutely FREAKING LOVE it, so I definitely have my beady eye on that – maybe a wishlist is the way forward.

high

Now you’re up. Don’t forget to send me your links if you give this TAG a go. I’ll be back on Thursday guys, but in the meantime don’t forget to Like/ Comment/ Follow.

Liebster Award

This is a very special week for me. Number 1 – tomorrow is the day I landed on earth, it’s my birthday oooh yeah, merry jigs. The other reason this week is kinda special is that I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award by the lovely Kate Dixon. Thank you.
imagesCA8I0WWW
The Liebster Award is an award for upcoming bloggers with less than 200 followers. Although there is no shiny medal for the mantelpiece, it’s a great way to get to know fellow bloggers.

So lets get started…

The Rules
• Each person must post 11 facts about themselves.
• Answer the questions that the nominator has set for you, and then select 11 questions you nominate people to answer.
• Choose 11 people to nominate and tag them in your post.
• Tell those lucky 11 that you have nominated them.
• Absolutely no tag backs.

My 11 Facts
• I live in Manchester, UK. It’s so rainy and miserable it even has a song…
• “Going back to Manchester, good to see the rain” and that’s all your getting.
• I went to the University of Salford to do Journalism and Broadcasting. I’m now a PR Executive.
• My favourite place in the UK is Huddersfield; it’s a lot more scenic than Manchester. Second to that would be Alton Towers.
• I’m half Ghanaian. I have a lot of family over there and Ghana is my favourite place outside the UK.
• A few years ago I auditioned for Total Wipeout and got through the first round.
• I have a biiig 12 year old goldfish named Gerard (after Gerard Way)…people presume we feed him steroids. We don’t before you call the RSPCA on us.

"Please dont serve me with chips!"

“Please dont serve me with chips!”

 • I LOVE sweets…especially the Rowntrees Fizzy Bottles.
• I spent my childhood playing Tomb Raider and still love it to this day.
• Two places I WILL visit someday are Manhattan, NY and Abu Dhabi.
• My favourite animals are Cats including wild cats and Polar Bears.

My Questions Answered…
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Giddy, clumsy and quirky. Everybody close to can tell you a story or 2 on my clumsiness. Falling backwards into a big plant because I was pushed by 4 year old – yes A CHILD! Missing my mouth and pouring coke all the way down myself – on a date… Face palm…you name it, I’ve done it
Why did you start your blog?
I love writing, its part of my job and I love makeup and beauty – a blog is a good way to entwine the two.
What makes you smile?
Seeing the special people in my life smile, Walt Disney Classics, sweets and suprises.
What is one of your talents?
I don’t see as I have any really. Does knowing all the words to songs/ scripts of Walt Disney Classics count as a talent?
What is your favourite season?
Summer without a doubt. Not that we see much of it in UK, but when the sun does come out it’s a merry jig and Rayban occasion.
What is one piece of advice you would like to share?
Be yourself and live your life how you want to.
What is your favourite candy/ chocolate?
Hmmm now there’s a tough one, I love anything sweet; but if I have to choose a favourite chocolate, I’d have to go with Foucher Paris. All thanks there going to the significant other who got me started on them.photoCANFK8MP
What is one of your pet peeves?
Right now? The hens next door – keeping me awake.
What is your favourite book?
Quite a light read but I really enjoyed Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. It’s the follow up to Devil Wears Prada.
What are your top five makeup/ fashion products/ items?
Another tough one. I have lots and I’m always finding more, but the ones that stick out are:
• Urban Decay Naked Palettes – I know that’s 3, but they are essentially the same product and I love them all equally so they’re going as 1. Sorry.
• Maybelline The Falsies mascara – I don’t think I could ever get enough of this stuff, it makes my lashes thick, long and lasts all day.
• NARS tinted moisturiser- You could fry chips on the oil that radiates from my T Zone. A lot of drugstore BB Creams/ Tinted Moisturisers just add to the oil and/ or turn really cakey on my skin. NARS is the only tinted moisturiser that stays put and keeps my shine away.
• MAC Kajal eyeliner in Brownborder – This is one of the unsung heroes in my make up bag. I love wearing lots of eyeliner, but lots of eyeliner looks like a panda after 2 hours. This stuff doesn’t budge so I don’t have to worry about it for a few hours.
• Oil free moisturiser – This is a lifesaver for my oily T Zone, it controls the shine whilst moisturising and makes a great base for my makeup. My favourites are either the Simple one, or the Boots Tea Tree.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
I’m not going to lie, I would probably deafen all of you with my screams, but I would love to do a sky dive. Although I’m quite clumsy so there’s a very good chance ill somehow get tangled in the parachute.

And that’s my lot…

Phwaarrrr that was a looong post! Having said that it was fun to fill you guys in on things you wouldn’t know about me, it’s also a great way to build up your blogging network and find new blogs to read.
Now its your turn, I nominate…

And here are your questions:
1. Describe yourself in 3 words?

4. Name 3 places in the world you would like to visit?
5. Name one thing that you would love to do but cant?

I’ll be back with my usual post on Thursday, you’re lucky enough to get 2 posts this week. For now, you’ll find me feasting on birthday cake. Dont worry I’ll save you some ;).

Ciao for now

Would You Rather TAG – Beauty Edition

Woohoo, Spring has arrived! It’s also Thursday, and that means time for another ramble…

tagedited

I thought I’d mix things up a bit this week. I’ve seen this TAG floating around various blogs and thought it would be fun to give it go; plus you guys may learn a little more about me in the process ;-).

So let’s get started…

Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners and lipsticks or all of your palettes and eyeshadows?

Mascaras, eyeliners and lipsticks without a doubt. I would just use eyeshadow to imitate eyeliner. Mascara may be the hardest one to lose though, as long as I could at least curl my lashes/ wear falsies on special occasions, I’d survive – I think.

Would you rather never being able to paint yours nails again or never use lip gloss?

I’d ditch the lipgloss. Call me strange, but I find painting my nails quite therapeutic, especially now they have grown back fully. Lip balms shine like gloss and are better for your lips anyway right ;).

Would you rather give up foundation or mascara forever?

That’s easy, farewell foundation! My skin isn’t too bad, aside from the odd blemish and monthly breakouts. As long as I had moisturizer and concealer I’d be happy. I couldn’t say goodbye to mascara – noooo way!

Would you rather have no eyebrows or have your eyelashes fall out?

Hmmmm, I’d rather my eyelashes fall out, I think. No lashes doesn’t sound as noticeable as no brows, although coming to think of it – I wonder how weird that would look.

Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

A sharpie for eyebrows? Not a chance in hell would that be happening! I’d rather live my life with no eyebrows at all. I have images of sharpie drawn brows now – nightmares. I would either use eyeshadow to give the illusion of having brows, or just suck it up and go bare.

imagesCABJOULH

Noooooo way – you keep awaaaay Mr.

Would you rather have a bad hair cut or bad hair colour?

I could work with a bad haircut, it’ll grow out although I’m inpatient so I’d go out and grab some extensions – instant fix ;). A bad hair colour is harder to disguise, and trying to reverse it would snap my hair.

Would you rather give up makeup or your cell phone for a year?

Tough one, but my iPhone would be more useful in an emergency. Make up wouldn’t help me talk to those special people in my life, and not wearing makeup for a year would work wonders on your skin.

Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or overdone blush?

Overdone blush seems like the lesser of two evils. I’d work with the blush and try to convince people I’d been running for an hour, not that anyone who knows me would believe me, but hey. If it was really bad I’d spend ten minutes finding the nearest mirror to blend it in.

Would you rather wear a bad lip-liner/lipstick combo or have an 80’s perm?

Bad lip liner and lipstick combo, I don’t think I could rock the 80s perm. My hair as a child was the equivalent anyway – tight/ afro curls and I hated it. God bless relaxing systems and GHDs.

photo (8)

BOOM! I am MORTIFIED right now…

Would you rather give up using makeup brushes or mascara?

Makeup brushes. A lick of mascara makes the world of difference, without it my eyes would resemble a decomposed panda, niiice. Although giving up my Real Techniques collection would be awful, there would be tears.

Would you rather apply make- up yourself with no mirror on a bumpy car journey or ask a 5 year old to do it?

Do it myself without a mirror, I don’t care how bumpy the journey is. I wouldn’t let a 5 year old loose on my face with makeup. Doing minimal makeup minus a mirror can’t be too difficult, reflections could help ;-). Although my clumsiness would probably mean mascara on my teeth.

Would you rather wear the exact same make up everyday for the rest of your life or drastically change your makeup everyday (even if it didnt suit you)?

Same make up everyday, although that sounds boring. There are some make up looks I’m just not brave enough to try. The hardest part of this for me would be using the same products over and over, I like shopping for newbies. I get bored.

Would you rather have dodgy brows or patchy fake tan?

Erm, i’ve never used fake tan but I’m guessing patchy fake tan is easier to cover. Fake tan would wear off in a few days wouldn’t it, although patchy fake tan looks baaad. A dodgy brow do would take a while to grow out.

Would you rather have perfectly white teeth or the perfect hairstyle?

I’ll take the pearly whites. A hair style is easy to achieve, but will never stay perfect, even with the strongest style spray. Teeth need a little more work, but they will stay perfect a little longer. I’m scared of both dentists and hairdressers though so as long as I didnt have to visit either, it’s all good.

Would you rather wear no lipstick ever again or no eyeliner ever again?

Lipstick. My lizard lips dont get on so well with lipstick anyway. Eye makeup is my favourite part of the whole ritual, they look shockingly dull with no winged liner and I’d feel naked without it.

And that’s all folks!…

Hope you enjoyed reading. Do any of you disagree with my answers?  Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to like/comment and follow.

Oh and by the way…I TAG every single one of you 😉 if you do it, send me your links. I’m nosey.

Ciao for now
