40 Beauty Questions | TAG

40TAGHiyaa,

Hope you all had an amazing Easter and I trust everyone ate their weight in chocolate/ saved some for me. Relly’s back with another TAG. This week I’m doing the 40 Beauty Questions TAG. Now 40 is a lot and you know how I like a good ol’ ramble, so I’m just gonna dive straight in.

Skincare

How many times do you wash your face daily?

Twice. Once in the morning before I put on my makeup, and last thing at night before bed.

What skin type do you have? (dry, oily, combo)

Ooooh boy, my skin is oily. In fact you could save money on oil when frying chips if you catch my drift. I’ve found a way to keep it at bay which seems to be working for me though so I won’t complain.

What is your current facial wash?

At the moment I’m using the Clearasil Superfruits Oil and Shine wash, but it changes all the time.

oil4

Do you exfoliate?

Yup, once on a weekend, usually a Saturday morning. I used to exfoliate everyday but that’s baaaad apparently – naughty Relly.

What brand do you use?

I don’t stick to any one brand, I get bored. But I do use a lot of Simple and Garnier products as they don’t seem to break me out at all.

What moisturiser do you use?

I switch this up quite a bit as well, but it’s always an oil balancing one. At the moment its the Boots Witch Hazel and Tea Tree Shine Control Day Moisturiser.

oil2

Do you have freckles?

Yep, very fine ones on my cheeks.

Do you use eye cream?

Ooooh yes indeedy. I always use it before bed and sometimes in the morning. I’m using the Elizabeth Arden Visiable Difference one at the moment and its great, it brightens up my dark circles a treat.

Did you or do you have acne prone skin?

Not really. I get the odd zit here and there and blackheads around my nose. Although I do have a few blemishes left behind from old spots.

Did you ever have to use pro active?

Whaaat? I don’t even know what this is – can some kind person shed some light?

Makeup

What foundation do you use?

I only really use the NARS Tinted Moisturiser, but I do love a bit of NARS Sheer Glow.

e4f0022b-beb8-49b4-a0f0-55fb1a4ca8da

How about concealer?

Under my eyes I use MAC Pro Longwear in NW35. On the odd blemishes around my face I just use the Collection Lasting Perfection in Medium – cheap and cheerful.

Do you know your undertone colour?

Not 100%. The lovely people on the MAC counter say I have pinky undertones but I remain unconvinced. All I know is that when choosing concealer (especially drugstore), a lot of them go an ashy grey colour underneath my eyes.

What do you think of false eyelashes?

I will wear natural ones on very special occasions, but I really don’t like long ones, they resemble spiders to me. Ewwwww

Did you know that you’re supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?

Yes, although I only buy a new one when my old one has run out, if that’s over the 3 months then slap me on the wrist.

What brand of mascara do you use?

Maybelline all the way! I love love love The Falsies, I don’t think I’ve ever found anything I love quite as much.

maythefalse

Sephora or MAC?

MAC. If we had a Sephora in the UK, maybe I’d be swayed – who knows.

Do you have a MAC pro- card?

Nope. I would love one though.

What makeup tools do you use in makeup application?

Brushes all the way, I’ve never been into sponges, so I don’t see myself jumping on this Beauty Blender hype anytime soon. I use my fingers to work my undereye concelaer in though.

Do you use makeup base/ primer for the eyes.

Not day to day. I love using the Urban Decay Primer Potion though when I need my makeup to last all day.

For the face?

No, I’ve never really tried it. Maybe if I was to try it id be a convert.

What is your favourite eye shadow colour/ shade?

Don’t ask me questions like that, I can’t choose one as I feel mean on the rest. I’m getting a lot of use out of Shale by MAC at the moment, but all the shades in my Naked Palettes are still waaaaay up there.

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?

Gel to tight-line and to get my signature flick, but pencil on the lower waterline.

How often do you poke yourself in the eyes with an eyeliner pencil?

How often is all the time!?

What do you think of pigment eye shadow?

They look gorgeous, but waaaay to messy/ time consuming for me.

Do you use mineral makeup?

I’ve never tried it.

What is your favourite lipstick?

Blankety by MAC. I love a nude lip and Blankety is the perfect very cool pink nude shade.

What about lipgloss?

I like Tanya Burr’s lipglosses in Just Peachy and Afternoon Tea, other than that I don’t really wear lipgloss.

photoCAF0QUIC

What is your favourite blush to use?

I’m not a big fan of wearing blush at all to be honest.

Do you buy your makeup off ebay?

Nope. I like to go in store and see for myself before buying.

Do you like drugstore makeup?

Yes, you can’t go wrong with a few drugstore goodies.

Do you go to CCO’s? (Cosmetic company outlets)

No, I don’t think there is any near me, but If there was I’d be there in a shot.

Did you ever consider taking makeup classes?

No, I use YouTube for that.

Are you clumsy in putting makeup on?

Not really, I’m quite careful in applying makeup, however I’m a clumsy person so I could drop anything. I mean just look at the state of my powder!

stay matte

Name a makeup crime that you hate?

Hmmm, there’s so many that spring to mind. I’m going with harshly drawn on eyebrows, bright you’ve been Tangoed orange foundation and spider lashes.

Do you like colourful shades of makeup (lipstick or eye shadow) or neutral ones?

Neutral. I’m not brave enough to use anything bright.

Which celebrity always has great makeup?

Lana Del Rey. I love her vintage/ modern 60’s style and she rocks tonnes of winged liner.

lana

If you could leave the house using just ONE makeup item, what would it be?

Mascara, at least my eyes would look partially alive and not resemble the Evil Dead.

Could you ever leave the house without makeup on?

Yes. I don’t wear makeup for the gym or just popping to the shop.

Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?

I wouldn’t say I looked good without makeup but I don’t really think I look that bad either. I just prefer looking bright eyed and bushy tailed.

In your opinion what is the BEST makeup line?

Oh dear, another question Relly can’t answer without a ramble. Urban Decay and MAC are my favourite for eye shadows, but NARS has my vote on face makeup.

What do you think of makeup?

I love it. It brightens up the face and makes me feel so much more confident and put together. Having said that, I don’t think we should hide behind tonnes of the stuff and completely change how we look with it, just enhance certain features and work with what your momma gave you.

Phhewwww that was a long ramble, sorry guys. I hope you enjoyed reading it anyway and I TAG all of you who get this far. Dont forget to Like/ Comment and Follow blah blah blah you know the drill. Until Thursday Relly out.

Oil Wars | How I Tackle the T-Zone

Happy Thursday lovely people,

Having skin that seems to produce more oil in a day, than Mc Donalds does in a week; it’s fair to say ‘Housten we have a problem.’ Especially with summer just around the river bend. So heres how I tackle the T-Zone.

oil3edit

I’ve tried everything to tackle my T-Zone, from rubbing my skin with lemon juice before bed to mentholated talc – you name it I’ve done it. Nothing really worked, in fact things just got worse. Anyhoooz, I have finally settled into a skincare routine that seems to work for me so I thought I’d share it with you, and maybe it could help some of you with the same issue.

Face Wash

I wash my face first thing in the morning before makeup, then again before bed. I’m not really fussy about which wash I use – partly for the fact I get bored. One brand I always tend to go back to is Garnier, I just find their face washes give my skin a deep clean (especially the Pure Active range), not too harsh and are relatively cheap. During the week I just use a cream wash, but at weekend I like to use an exfoliater and mask.

What I’m using at the moment.

Clearasil Oil and Shine Balancing Wash – This is what I use during the week. I have to admit, this isn’t the best wash I have used. It doesn’t give me the same ahhhhhhhh fresh feeling that the Pure Active range does and it doesn’t seem to foam up at all – but it works; it’s not breaking me out, it’s helping combat the grease ball and it smells good. I got this on offer in Superdrug for £2.49, but if I’m not mistaken it usually retails around £4.

oil4

Garnier Pure Active 3 in 1 – This is what I use at weekend, and I looove it. It triples up as a wash, exfoliator and mask at the same time. If you wash it straight off its just a wash/ exfoliator, but if you leave it on, the clay hardens and leaves you with a clay mask. I apply it to dry skin, leave it for 10 mins, and then take it off. Afterwards my skin feels really tingly, fresh and soft. The only thing I will say however, is that it can be quite drying so you will need to follow up with a good moisturiser and I wouldn’t use this every day. It retails around £5 which is pretty reasonable considering it works 3 jobs.

oil5

Moisturiser

This is one I’ve struggled with in the past, all the face moisturisers I bought (including the oil free ones) would still make me oily/ break me out. However I’ve found 2 that actually work so I tend to switch between, depending how my skin feels or which make up I’ll be using.

Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Moisturiser – Like all Simple products, it’s made with multi vitamins for sensitive skin and promises to ‘eliminate shine and maintain moisture levels.’ This really works for me, it doesn’t make my skin oily throughout the day, absorbs well and moisturises really well. It doesn’t break me out and makeup blends easily on top of it. This retails around £5.

oil1oil6

Boots Tea Tree Witch Hazel Shine Control Day Moisturiser – This doesn’t look like a moisturiser, to me it looks like a face wash until you read it. Unlike the Simple Oil Balancing Moisturiser, this is a gel formula. It promises to ‘lightly moisturise, keep skin shine free, provide a matte makeup base and calm skin’ – It does exactly that. It absorbs really quickly into the skin, visibly mattifies and the tea tree, witch hazel keeps skin clear. This doesn’t provide as much moisture as the Simple one, but if keeping oil at bay is your main goal, its perfect. This is around £3 in Boots.

oil2oil7

Makeup

Tinted Moisturiser/ BB Cream – The drugstore ones aimed at Oily skin, for example the Maybelline Matte BB Cream really do not work for me, they turn my skin some ridiculous shade of tangerine and look like someone has thrown a bag of flour over my face for a spot of baking. I stick to the NARS Tinted Moisturiser now though, as it’s the only one that stays on all day and doesn’t turn oily/ cakey. My advice on this front is to avoid any heavy products and allow your skin to breath under the makeup as much as possible.

e4f0022b-beb8-49b4-a0f0-55fb1a4ca8da

Powder – I don’t use this every day, I only use it to touch up my T Zone if I get a bit of shine/ need my makeup to last. I use the Rimmel Stay Matte powder in 001 Translucent, it’s great for touching up and doesn’t look powdery.

rimmel stay matte (5)

That’s about all I do to my skin, its not a lot but I’ve found this routine/ these products work for me to keep my skin from looking like a fat fryer. I will do a post on my full skin care routine soon as I’ve changed it up in the last few days if anyone would be interested?

Does anybody have any tips or products that help oily skin? Let me know in the comments. Until Tag Tuesday is upon us, Happy Easter and eat your weight in chocolate. I bid you farewell, don’t forget to Like/ Comment/ Follow – you know the dance.

7 Sins of Beauty | TAG

Today I’m going to give the 7 Deadly Sins of Beauty TAG a whirl. I think this tag is based on the movie Se7en, which is about 7 short stories that describe 7 sins of mankind. Anyway, this cool concept has now been turned into a beauty TAG, so lets get on with it.

7 sins edit final

Greed

What is your most inexpensive beauty item? My least expensive beauty product I would have to go with my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer. At £5, it’s an absolute bargain and it works so well. It covers any pesky red zits, stays put and even doubles up as an eye primer. Win win.

coneal;er

What is your most expensive beauty item? Hmm, I’m going to go with the Urban Decay Naked Pallets. The colour range/ pigmentation and lasting power is perfection. These are probably the most babied products in my makeup collection; I haven’t even taken them out of the boxes they came in. Costing £37 each, that’s £111 worth of eyeshadow – OUCH!

3NakedPalettes

Wrath

What beauty products do you have a love/ hate relationship with? The love/ hate award has to go to lipstick. I love the gawping at the colours, but I don’t have the confidence to wear any colours but nudes, and within an hour they make my lips peel. Dayymn.

lippy

What product has been the hardest to get? The Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette. I got my Naked Palettes in the complete wrong order, 2 first, then 3 then 1. Surprisingly enough, it was the Naked 1 palette that was sold out everywhere, even though it’s been out 4 years longer than the other 2. Strange.

naked1

Gluttony

What are your most delicious beauty products? I think this solely goes to the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. I was so excited to finally get this, as it was INSANE the amount of people raving about it. As pricey as it is at £26, it has practically given me new lips so it really justifies itself. It doesn’t smell great but it works a dream. Full review here.

ea1

Sloth

What beauty products do you neglect due to laziness? Night skin treatments, hands down. All I want to do at night is lay in bed with my iPad; the idea of spending an extra 10 mins on my skin with oil and god knows what else – psssh bugger that. After the makeups off, my Duac treatment goes on and that’s about it. Dear Skin, I promise I will try and do better.

night

Pride

What beauty product gives you the most self confidence? The NARS tinted moisturiser. I’ve done a full review of this beauty right here. It gives just the right amount of coverage and it’s really buildable. As it’s so lightweight, it just feels like skin, rather than skin that has been buried under a ton of makeup.

e4f0022b-beb8-49b4-a0f0-55fb1a4ca8da

Lust

What products do you lust after? The YSL Babydoll Mascara. I want to try it sooooo bad but I can’t seem to cave into my own temptation. I love my Maybelline The Falsies that much that I’m scared the YSL can’t live up to it. What’s a girl to do?

untitled

Envy

What would you most like to receive as a gift? Hmmm tough one, but I think I’ll go for Benefit Makeup. I get confused by all the product names, figure I’d be completely lost and avoid the stand. However, the significant other was nice enough to surprise me with the High Beam Highlighter, and I absolutely FREAKING LOVE it, so I definitely have my beady eye on that – maybe a wishlist is the way forward.

high

Now you’re up. Don’t forget to send me your links if you give this TAG a go. I’ll be back on Thursday guys, but in the meantime don’t forget to Like/ Comment/ Follow.

March Favourites

marchedited

Hello there you lovely bunch,

It’s almost April already…whaaaaaat? It doesn’t seem like a month ago since I sat in this exact spot and wrote my February Favourites. My beauty products haven’t switched up too much this month, but there are a few newbies and couple of old favourites that have really stood out, so on with the March favourites.

First up…

MAC eye shadow in Woodwinked: Ooooh baby, this is one of the most hyped MAC eye shadows, and I see why. I would describe Woodwinked as a beautiful golden bronzed shade, it’s highly pigmented and blends like a dream. As you blend it out, the tone of the shadow deepens so it looks like you have taken lots of time putting shadow through your crease – when really you haven’t even bothered. Day to day, I’ve been packing Woodwinked all over my lid, blending it up through my crease with a dark brown shadow on the outer V. With winged liner, mascara and a nude pencil on my lower waterline it’s great for fresh everyday makeup.

imagesCADHAK08

Herbal Essence Bee Strong Range: I picked this up at the beginning of the month because it was on a 3 for 2 offer in Boots, and I absolutely love it. It smells sooo goood. It’s aimed at damaged hair with honey and apricot extracts; and claims to ‘repair the protective outer layer of each strand of hair.’ My hair at the beginning of the month was really dry and brittle because I went through a phase of curling it. This seems to have really helped hydrate my ends. Straight after washing it, my hair feels super soft and healthy; even a friend commented on how healthy it looked. I use both the shampoo and conditioner, and also the intensive masque once a week. The shampoo and conditioner usually retail individullay at around £4 and the Intensive Masque around £5.

shampoo

Tanya Burr Lips and Nails: I did a full review YouTuber Tanya Burr’s lipgloss here. I am a little blown away by the quality of this range. The lipglosses are super creamy, pigmented and moisturising, without being a sticky hair magnet, and the nail polishes last all week without chipping. This month I added another lipgloss in Afternoon Tea, which is a gorgeous pinky nude colour to my collection, and 2 nail polishes, in Penguin Chic – a light grey colour, and Riding Hood – a very deep red. The nail polish comes in a little NARS-esque pot so they look really luxurious and the colour range/ pay off is a dream. The lipgloss retails at £6.99 and the nail polish £5.99 – you can get them from Superdrug and Feel Unique.

tanya

NARS Tinted Moisturiser: This is another item I reviewed here a while back. This is seriously the best tinted moisturiser I have tried. It lasts all day on my skin, without turning my face into a big oily mess and doesn’t turn cakey. We’ve seen a few sunny days this month, and normally the oil practically drips off my T Zone when the sun is out, but this keeps my skin matte all day. It doesn’t break me out and gives me the very light coverage I like. It’s a bit pricey at £28, but worth every single penny – I’m in the shade Medium 1 St Mouritz.

e4f0022b-beb8-49b4-a0f0-55fb1a4ca8da

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Liner in Nude: I just wear this day to day on my lower waterline, but I love it. It really brightens up my eyes, doesn’t smudge and lasts all day. I usually find drugstore eyeliners quite dry and not pigmented, so I end up really tugging at my eyes, but this is really and creamy uber pigmented so I don’t have to tug – no premature wrinkles allowed here. At £3.99 a pop, it’s a bloody bargain.

Rimmel_scandal_eyes_khol_kajal_waterproof_005_nude

That’s all on my March favourites list, a pretty short one. What products have stood out to you guys this month? Dont forget to like/ comment and follow. I’ll be back next week with another ramble, until then, Happy April people :).

Liebster Award

This is a very special week for me. Number 1 – tomorrow is the day I landed on earth, it’s my birthday oooh yeah, merry jigs. The other reason this week is kinda special is that I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award by the lovely Kate Dixon. Thank you.
imagesCA8I0WWW
The Liebster Award is an award for upcoming bloggers with less than 200 followers. Although there is no shiny medal for the mantelpiece, it’s a great way to get to know fellow bloggers.

So lets get started…

The Rules
• Each person must post 11 facts about themselves.
• Answer the questions that the nominator has set for you, and then select 11 questions you nominate people to answer.
• Choose 11 people to nominate and tag them in your post.
• Tell those lucky 11 that you have nominated them.
• Absolutely no tag backs.

My 11 Facts
• I live in Manchester, UK. It’s so rainy and miserable it even has a song…
• “Going back to Manchester, good to see the rain” and that’s all your getting.
• I went to the University of Salford to do Journalism and Broadcasting. I’m now a PR Executive.
• My favourite place in the UK is Huddersfield; it’s a lot more scenic than Manchester. Second to that would be Alton Towers.
• I’m half Ghanaian. I have a lot of family over there and Ghana is my favourite place outside the UK.
• A few years ago I auditioned for Total Wipeout and got through the first round.
• I have a biiig 12 year old goldfish named Gerard (after Gerard Way)…people presume we feed him steroids. We don’t before you call the RSPCA on us.

"Please dont serve me with chips!"

“Please dont serve me with chips!”

 • I LOVE sweets…especially the Rowntrees Fizzy Bottles.
• I spent my childhood playing Tomb Raider and still love it to this day.
• Two places I WILL visit someday are Manhattan, NY and Abu Dhabi.
• My favourite animals are Cats including wild cats and Polar Bears.

My Questions Answered…
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Giddy, clumsy and quirky. Everybody close to can tell you a story or 2 on my clumsiness. Falling backwards into a big plant because I was pushed by 4 year old – yes A CHILD! Missing my mouth and pouring coke all the way down myself – on a date… Face palm…you name it, I’ve done it
Why did you start your blog?
I love writing, its part of my job and I love makeup and beauty – a blog is a good way to entwine the two.
What makes you smile?
Seeing the special people in my life smile, Walt Disney Classics, sweets and suprises.
What is one of your talents?
I don’t see as I have any really. Does knowing all the words to songs/ scripts of Walt Disney Classics count as a talent?
What is your favourite season?
Summer without a doubt. Not that we see much of it in UK, but when the sun does come out it’s a merry jig and Rayban occasion.
What is one piece of advice you would like to share?
Be yourself and live your life how you want to.
What is your favourite candy/ chocolate?
Hmmm now there’s a tough one, I love anything sweet; but if I have to choose a favourite chocolate, I’d have to go with Foucher Paris. All thanks there going to the significant other who got me started on them.photoCANFK8MP
What is one of your pet peeves?
Right now? The hens next door – keeping me awake.
What is your favourite book?
Quite a light read but I really enjoyed Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. It’s the follow up to Devil Wears Prada.
What are your top five makeup/ fashion products/ items?
Another tough one. I have lots and I’m always finding more, but the ones that stick out are:
• Urban Decay Naked Palettes – I know that’s 3, but they are essentially the same product and I love them all equally so they’re going as 1. Sorry.
• Maybelline The Falsies mascara – I don’t think I could ever get enough of this stuff, it makes my lashes thick, long and lasts all day.
• NARS tinted moisturiser- You could fry chips on the oil that radiates from my T Zone. A lot of drugstore BB Creams/ Tinted Moisturisers just add to the oil and/ or turn really cakey on my skin. NARS is the only tinted moisturiser that stays put and keeps my shine away.
• MAC Kajal eyeliner in Brownborder – This is one of the unsung heroes in my make up bag. I love wearing lots of eyeliner, but lots of eyeliner looks like a panda after 2 hours. This stuff doesn’t budge so I don’t have to worry about it for a few hours.
• Oil free moisturiser – This is a lifesaver for my oily T Zone, it controls the shine whilst moisturising and makes a great base for my makeup. My favourites are either the Simple one, or the Boots Tea Tree.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
I’m not going to lie, I would probably deafen all of you with my screams, but I would love to do a sky dive. Although I’m quite clumsy so there’s a very good chance ill somehow get tangled in the parachute.

And that’s my lot…

Phwaarrrr that was a looong post! Having said that it was fun to fill you guys in on things you wouldn’t know about me, it’s also a great way to build up your blogging network and find new blogs to read.
Now its your turn, I nominate…

And here are your questions:
1. Describe yourself in 3 words?
2. What really annoys you?
3. What is your favourite food?
4. Name 3 places in the world you would like to visit?
5. Name one thing that you would love to do but cant?

A Tinted Moisturiser that Stay, Stay, Stays

In hindsight, it wasn’t a great idea travelling home from London to Manchester at 3am. Last weekend, the significant other and myself were bound for the big city for a Taylor Swift concert. Problem, how the heck was I going to keep my make up from melting off my face?

Answer: NARS Tinted Moisturiser.

e4f0022b-beb8-49b4-a0f0-55fb1a4ca8da

I’ve never been very lucky with face make up, I don’t wear foundation, and BB creams/ tinted moisturisers make my oily skin fit for egg frying after an hour. I’ve been using the Simple Beautifying Balm, and let me tell you – that ‘light reflecting particles’ statement is just a jazzy way of saying pure glitter. Sick of looking like Tinkerbell’s play thing, I decided to splash a little and try the NARS addition to the tinted moisturiser world.

*cue halleluiah chorus*

What NARS say:
“Your skin – almost bare but better. This lightweight oil- free tinted moisturiser provides a translucent veil of colour and sun protection while helping to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and dark spots in four weeks. Infused with lush, naturally derived botanicals and ingredients to help thirsty skin feel hydrated.

What Relly says:

Whatever NARS said. With a whopping SPF 30, I was expecting thick gloop but how wrong was I. When applied, the consistency is really creamy and a little goes a long way. It left my skin feeling soft and moisturised all day without the dreaded grease.

photo

A small pea sized amount blended with a Stippling brush is more than enough. With a dewy finish, the coverage is sheer but easily buildable. It does even out my complexion, and blur my dark acne spots, but I still require a little concealer over my troublesome areas and pesky dark under eye circles.

It lasts as long as can be expected. Without powder, it will begin to wear off after 5 hours or so; but splash it with a little powder when you apply and you’re good to go. I applied it around 9am, by 3pm when we reached London, I touched up my concealer and forgot about it until 11pm. To my surprise, it was only my concealer needing a touch up.

*Note to self – buy a good concealer.*

One Con:
The main problem with this product is the shade range. It comes in 11 shades, but there are worlds of difference between them. I got the shade Medium 1 St Moritz, which is just the right shade for my half cast skin tone; but the shade after it, Annapurma is A LOT darker and made me look like an umpa lumpa.

Overall, I love this baby. Retailing at £28, the NARS tinted moisturiser does everything you’d expect from a good tinted moisturiser. Hydrating the skin and lightly covering imperfections, without turning into a big oily mess. It withstood two big journeys, and 4 sweaty hours singing along to Taylor Swift.

Sorry Simple Beautifying Balm – ‘We, are never ever ever getting back together.’ – couldn’t resist that one!

What do you think of the NARS tinted moisturiser, and can anyone recommend a good concealer?

Ciao for now
